After more than 20 years: Oded Fehr returns to 'The Mummy'
The Israeli actor, who played the leader of the Medjai Ardeth Bay in the previous films, will return to the Universal franchise, which is expected to return to screens in October 2027. According to a report in Deadline, Kevin J. O'Connor, who played Beni Gabor, is also joining the new film alongside Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
At the end of 2025, it was reported that Universal Studios was working on a new film in The Mummy series, with negotiations underway with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to return to their iconic roles. Since their return was confirmed, production has been gaining momentum, as additional casting is now being revealed, including an Israeli representative.
According to a report by the website Deadline, Israeli actor Oded Fehr will return to the franchise alongside Kevin J. O'Connor, who also acted in the original 1999 film. Joining them is Turkish-German actor Numan Acar, known among other things for his role in Young Sherlock.
Fehr played Ardeth Bay in The Mummy, the leader of the Medjai — a secret order of warriors sworn to protect Egypt from the franchise's undead enemies. He returned to the role in The Mummy Returns (2001). O'Connor played Beni Gabor, a former member of Rick O'Connell's (Brendan Fraser) French Foreign Legion, who became a con man and servant to the resurrected Egyptian priest. At this stage, it has not been announced who Acar will play.
The Mummy films of the 90s and 2000s, based on one of Universal's original cinematic monsters from the beginning of the 20th century, followed American adventurer Rick O'Connell and English Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) on their journeys through ancient mysteries, curses, and Egyptian myths.
The new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream 6, Scream 7), members of the directing duo Radio Silence. Sean Daniel, who was among the producers of the original Mummy films, will return to produce the film alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein from Project X Entertainment. The script is entrusted to David Coggeshall (The Salvation). The film is expected to be released in theaters in October 2027.
