The Ghanaian underwent a series of tests yesterday, concluding after 22:00 Belgrade time. All data was sent to Israel, and the final results are expected today. Hapoel Tel Aviv clarified that any player purchased for such a sum undergoes comprehensive testing regardless of past injuries or rumors.
At the same time, Hapoel Tel Aviv conducted thorough consultations with representatives of Viktoria Plzen, who were set to purchase the player last May, as well as leading experts in Serbia. A final decision on whether to proceed with the deal will be made today based on the medical results.
If signed, Owusu will be integrated both on the wing and in the number 10 position in a flexible formation. Elyaniv Barda and the coaching staff are currently focused on the match against Katowice while awaiting updates on Owusu. If he signs today, there is a chance he could be registered for the two matches against the Polish side and be available for the second leg.
As is known, the 20-year-old Ghanaian was purchased by the Serbian champion last January for 2.2 million euros and was on the verge of moving to Viktoria Plzen this summer for 3.3 million euros, but failed the medical tests.
Recall that last summer Hapoel Tel Aviv purchased Daniel Dapa from Maccabi Netanya for 1.8 million euros, plus bonuses reaching 2 million, so a new club record is possible.
Owusu was not included in the Red Star squad for the Champions League qualifiers against Hapoel Be'er Sheva and has not yet played this season. If he signs soon, he will be eligible for registration for the Conference League playoffs, should Hapoel Tel Aviv qualify.
Owusu began his career at Askem FC before moving to Serbia's Radnik Surdulica in the summer of 2024. In his first season in Europe, he scored two goals in 32 league games, but started the second with seven goals in 20 games, leading to his purchase by Red Star (two goals in 12 league games). Serbian media were impressed by his speed:
"An extremely fast and explosive player... with his movement he poses a significant threat to the opponent's defenses... and at the same time displays a high technical level, which blends well with his speed."
