After the war with Israel: Iran reveals missile upgrades for the next confrontation
Iran claims that following the war, its missiles have been upgraded and are now capable of changing their trajectory and correcting flight direction on the way to the target. The IRGC says the capability is intended to improve accuracy and complicate Israel's defense systems.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iran claims that Iranian missiles have received new capabilities that allow them to be guided and change their trajectory during flight, as part of the lessons Tehran learned from the recent war. This was stated on Monday by the IRGC spokesperson, Hossein Mohabi.
According to reports in Iran, Mohabi claimed that the recent confrontation served as an arena for testing advanced military technologies by both sides. "This war was an exceptional experience in terms of using new technologies," he stated. "The United States brought its latest technologies to the battlefield, but failed."
Mohabi claimed that during the war, American forces used advanced capabilities that included artificial intelligence, command and control software systems, radar arrays, and means for collecting and processing intelligence from the field. According to him, these systems were intended to enable rapid decision-making during combat. However, he maintained that the use of these means did not prevent Iran from operating its missile array.
The IRGC spokesperson added that the Iranian side also utilized new technologies, and within this framework, missile capabilities were improved. According to him, Iranian missiles are now equipped with guidance and trajectory-changing capabilities, allowing them to make corrections during flight toward their targets. The Iranian publication did not provide additional technical details about the system, the types of missiles on which it was installed, or how the guidance is carried out.
These remarks follow previous statements by Mohabi regarding the upgrade of the Iranian missile array. Last month, in an interview with the Tasnim agency, he said that the armed forces used the ceasefire period to increase their capabilities, accelerate the pace of missile production, and improve their level of accuracy. The current statement is intended to present the war as a source of technological lessons for Iran, particularly for the Aerospace Force of the IRGC, which is responsible for a central part of the Islamic Republic's ballistic missile array.
Details previously published about the Iranian missile array provide a possible picture of the technology to which the IRGC spokesperson referred. It likely involves the use of maneuvering reentry vehicles (MaRV), which allow the warhead to deviate from the expected ballistic trajectory and perform course corrections in the final stages of flight. However, no official confirmation has been published that this is the specific technology to which Mohabi referred.
One prominent example is the "Fattah-1" missile. According to open information, an additional solid-fuel engine is installed inside its reentry body, with an exhaust nozzle that can be tilted. Changing the direction of the exhaust allows the warhead to maneuver and perform trajectory corrections after the main stage of the missile has finished its operation. Such a mechanism is intended both to improve accuracy and to make it difficult for defense systems to calculate the meeting point with the missile in advance.
The Tasnim agency, which is affiliated with the IRGC, previously claimed that the maneuverability of the Fattah was explicitly intended to deal with Israeli defense systems. According to the publication, when the attacking missile performs several significant maneuvers, the interceptor is forced to change its path repeatedly and consume energy, which may make it difficult for it to reach the interception point. Other Iranian missiles, including the Khorramshahr-4, are also equipped, according to professional sources, with maneuvering reentry vehicles. However, there is no public information at this stage that proves that Iran has developed a completely new capability of continuous guidance throughout the entire flight path, rather than an upgrade of the maneuvering capabilities already presented in the past.
