Apple is reportedly expanding its footprint in the smart home sector through a strategic partnership with LG, developing a comprehensive ecosystem of connected devices. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the collaboration will yield hardware branded entirely under LG, bypassing the iconic Apple logo on physical devices while integrating seamlessly with Apple's upcoming smart displays, upgraded HomePod Mini, and new Apple TV units.

The partnership encompasses a broad range of smart home hardware, including smart locks, video doorbells, thermostats, indoor security cameras, and outdoor floodlight cameras. These devices will incorporate robust connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Thread, and Matter protocols, with the smart lock featuring Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for proximity-based automatic unlocking. While Apple dictates the design, feature set, and engineering standards, LG assumes manufacturing, support, and branding responsibilities.

Strategic Manufacturing and Timeline

This is not Apple's first venture into white-label partnerships, having previously collaborated with manufacturers like Logitech and Belkin to scale its ecosystem without incurring the complexities of mass-producing diverse peripheral lines. This arrangement allows Apple to maintain strict secrecy and deploy its Siri AI assistant across physical households effectively.

The arrangement gives Apple a way to rapidly expand its ecosystem without taking on all the costs and complexities of developing a wide line of products.

Regulatory filings with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) indicate that Apple's name is intentionally omitted from documentation submitted by LG. Consequently, detailed specifications and product imagery are expected to remain confidential until early 2027 as production scales up.
