With the closing of trading on Monday in the USA, August has effectively ended. The four main indices — Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq, and the small-cap index Russell 2000 — finished the month with gains, with the Nasdaq recording the largest increase of 4.5%.

The Dow Jones index rose by approximately 2%, the S&P 500 strengthened by 3.5%, and the Russell 2000 rose by 1.4%.

Since the beginning of the year, the Russell 2000 has risen by almost 18%, followed by the Nasdaq with 13%, the S&P 500 with over 12%, and the Dow Jones with an increase of almost 10%.

Oil stagnated, metals soared

In the commodities sector, oil prices were volatile but closed the month without significant change, around 86 dollars per barrel for WTI and 90 dollars per barrel for Brent. American natural gas strengthened by almost 5%, while European gas jumped by 20%. Gold rose by 11.5%, and silver soared by more than 16%.

Digital gold has awakened

The crypto market has finally come to life after a long sleep. The price of Bitcoin jumped by 25% to reach 80,000 dollars per coin. Ethereum rose by 33%, Solana soared by 42%, and XRP rose by 30%. Despite these impressive gains, all these currencies remain in a negative trend since the beginning of the year and are still significantly far from their peaks.
