A rare tornado struck the Turkish Mediterranean city of Antalya early Tuesday morning, killing four people at a construction site in the Kepez district. Three of the victims were Syrian nationals.

According to local authorities, the sudden twister completely demolished two residential containers where the workers were staying. Another worker in the adjacent container sustained light-to-moderate injuries. The tornado also caused a construction crane to collapse, following heavy rainfall warnings issued by the national meteorological service.

Antalya Governor Hulusi Sahin noted the exceptional nature of the phenomenon, stating that no other areas of the city reported severe weather. This disaster occurs as Antalya prepares to host the upcoming UN COP31 climate conference next month. Meanwhile, Istanbul has also experienced severe weather, with heavy rains causing widespread flooding and traffic disruptions after a previous flood event earlier this month killed eight people.
