A 20-year-old resident of the Emek HaMaayanot region was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of animal abuse after allegedly being filmed lifting a cat by its tail and slamming it violently onto the floor multiple times. According to police, the horrific acts took place in front of the suspect's friends, who were heard encouraging him to continue. The investigation was launched following a video that reached law enforcement, prompting Northern District officers to quickly locate and identify the suspect. Following the investigation, officers tracked down the young man to an apartment in Tiberias, where he was arrested and taken in for questioning. Police are expected to request an extension of his detention at the Magistrate's Court in Nof HaGalil-Nazareth.

In a separate and shocking incident, an indictment was filed on Thursday against Lior Scharf, a 50-year-old from Kfar Saba, for a severe assault on a female friend and the killing of her dog. Scharf, who walked out onto the street wielding a samurai sword with his body stained in blood, is accused of punching his friend until she lost consciousness. Upon returning to his apartment and finding the dog licking its wounds, he threw a hammer at the animal and subsequently stabbed it to death with a kitchen knife.
