Former senior PA official: Kushner promised Israel will stop strikes in Gaza starting tomorrow
Against the backdrop of the roadmap for disarming Hamas, former senior Fatah official Mohammed Dahlan claimed that Jared Kushner reached an agreement with Israel to stop strikes in Gaza starting Sunday morning. "We are continuing contacts with the Americans to ensure the implementation of the agreement," he said.
Former senior Fatah official Mohammed Dahlan claimed last night (Saturday) that starting this morning, Israel is expected to cease strikes and targeted killings in the Gaza Strip, based on a promise he received from Jared Kushner. Meanwhile, according to Palestinian reports, two people were killed last night in a strike in the Deir al-Balah area in the center of the Strip.
Dahlan made the remarks after Hamas and the Palestinian factions agreed to a 15-point roadmap for the continued implementation of the peace plan in Gaza. In his statement, he claimed that the success of the agreement depends on "Israel's full commitment to ending the bombings, killings, liquidations, and daily attacks in Gaza."
According to Dahlan:
"Mr. Jared Kushner confirmed to us that he reached an agreement with the Israeli side to stop the strikes in Gaza starting tomorrow morning, while we continue intensive contacts with the American side to ensure the faithful and full implementation of the agreement."
Dahlan also called on all Palestinian factions to commit to the agreement in full, to stop armed demonstrations, and everything that might, in his words, give Israel "an excuse to sabotage it." He added that the factions must prepare for a "stage full of challenges," in which they will be required to rehabilitate Gaza, protect the West Bank, and continue on the path to establishing an independent Palestinian state.
At the same time, according to Palestinian reports, even before the time when, according to Dahlan, the cessation of strikes is supposed to take effect, two people were killed in a strike in the Deir al-Balah area in the center of the Strip.
Roadmap for the second stage
In response to the publication of the roadmap, Hamas set a series of conditions for the continued implementation of the second stage, including the cessation of Israeli strikes, withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and the entry of the committee to manage the Strip.
The roadmap includes a process of decommissioning and storing heavy weaponry, military production sites, weapons depots, and tunnels. At the same time, it stipulates that Israel will proceed to a gradual withdrawal in accordance with an agreed-upon timetable.
Dahlan, who was previously one of the senior Fatah officials and headed the Preventive Security Service in Gaza, has lived in Abu Dhabi for years. His name has previously been raised as a possible candidate to fill a role in the Strip on the "day after" the war, although he himself has denied that he intends to accept a security, ministerial, or executive position.
