Commander Amir Cohen, head of the Central District of the Israel Police, announced his retirement today after decades of service in the Border Police and the police force.

During the October 7 Hamas attack, serving as Southern District commander, Cohen recognized the infiltration and declared the "Flash Rider" code at 6:41 AM. Despite being wounded by shrapnel in the eye and two bullets in the back during the battle at the Sderot police station, he continued to direct forces and later arrived in Ofakim to manage a hostage situation.

Cohen began his career in the Border Police in 1988, serving in numerous command positions before leading the Border Police and later the Southern District, culminating in his role as Central District commander.
