A high-alert status was declared this evening (Monday) in the eastern border area of the Jordan Valley following reports of a potential infiltration. It is suspected that the alert was issued due to an attempt to smuggle drugs or weapons.

IDF observers identified two suspects, and forces in the area, which has been closed by the military, are currently scanning the terrain to locate them. Additionally, an aircraft was deployed to the area to assist in the search.

Yesterday, four suspects were arrested on suspicion of attempting to smuggle approximately 20 kg of hashish from Israel to Jordan via the eastern border. It is believed that the four individuals arrived at the fence and threw 36 packages containing the drugs to the Jordanian side.

The suspects were identified during a joint operation by fighters from the Northern District Border Unit, the MATILAN unit of the Judea and Samaria Border Police, and the 'Jordan Lions' battalion.

After throwing the packages, the suspects fled the fence area, but forces operating at the scene arrested them and seized the packages on the Jordanian side.
