An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale struck this morning, Tuesday, in Kumamoto Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan. The Japanese government has issued a tsunami warning for waves of up to one meter expected in the area.
According to reports from Japan, infrastructure has begun to collapse at Kumamoto Castle, which dates back to the samurai era. In the east of the prefecture lies Mount Aso, the largest active volcano in Japan and one of the largest in the world.
As a reminder, last month a double earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela, affecting the La Guaira and Caracas area in the north of the country. Thousands were killed or injured, and an Israeli delegation was dispatched to the South American country to assist in rescue operations.
