Stav Lemkin may soon make a major career leap. A year after leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv for Twente, it was reported in Italy on Saturday that Lazio is monitoring him and considering making an offer.

According to Sport Mediaset, Lemkin is one of the names that has appeared on the list of candidates to strengthen Gennaro Gattuso's defense. Lazio's sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, is closely following the Israeli defender while the team awaits clarity on the future of Alessio Romagnoli.

Romagnoli continues to train at Lazio's facility in Formello after negotiations for his move to Al-Sadd reached a dead end. However, the club is still exploring options to strengthen the center of the defense in case he leaves, and Lemkin is among the candidates. Lazio has already signed Danilho Doekhi this summer on a free transfer from Union Berlin, and the squad also includes Oliver Provstgaard. Despite this, some of the team's other defenders have already passed the age of 30, so the club is interested in rejuvenating the center of the defense and adding a player who can fit into it for the long term.

As mentioned, Lemkin moved to Twente in the summer of 2025 from Shakhtar Donetsk, after playing that season on loan at Maccabi Tel Aviv. The "Yellows" could have exercised the purchase option included in the agreement, but did not do so in time and tried to complete the deal only after it had expired. By that stage, the defender had already been sold to Twente. In his first season in the Netherlands, he recorded 29 appearances in all competitions, accumulated 2,430 minutes, and provided one assist.

His start at Twente was complex. In his debut match against Zwolle, he was substituted at halftime, and subsequently did not play for several months under coach Joseph Oosting. The change came after the appointment of John van den Brom, who returned him to the starting lineup and made him one of the key players in the defensive unit.

Lemkin holds a contract with Twente until 2028, with an option for Twente for an additional season, so the Dutch team will not let him go easily. If Lazio decides to turn the interest into a concrete move, they will be required to reach an agreement with Twente on the transfer fee.
