Seven people were injured in a traffic accident involving three vehicles on Highway 90, near Ashdot Ya'akov. Among the injured is a man in his 30s who was seriously wounded and suffered from multi-system trauma. He was trapped in the vehicle and evacuated by a Magen David Adom (MDA) 'Hatzala Air' helicopter to Rambam Hospital.
Three of the injured were evacuated in moderate condition: a woman in her 30s suffering from abdominal and chest injuries, a 5-year-old girl with an abdominal injury, and a one-year-old infant with a head injury. Three additional injured people were evacuated in light condition to the Poriya Medical Center.
MDA medics and paramedics provided medical treatment to the injured at the scene, which included stopping bleeding, bandaging, and stabilization. During the treatment of the man who was seriously injured, he was given a blood unit while on the way to the hospital.
MDA helicopter paramedics, Meir Ben Yair and Amnon Barzilai, said:
"We landed with the helicopter near the scene of the accident and joined up with an MDA intensive care ambulance team that transferred the patient to us, a man in his 30s who was conscious and suffering from multi-system trauma. He was transferred to us due to the severity of his injuries and the need for evacuation to a hospital far from the scene of the accident. During the initial examinations and medical treatment, we understood that his condition was serious and that he needed a blood transfusion, a product we have in the helicopter as part of our special treatment capabilities, and therefore we treated him with a blood unit while on the way to the hospital in order to stabilize his condition."
