Angered Jackie? "I won't do what he says like a robot. I have taste"
The pairing of Jackie Azulay and Eliav Sasson in the latest task on "MasterChef" ignited a fire in the kitchen even before they chose what to cook. The two struggled to reach joint decisions throughout the task, which caused a dispute. Later, after the episode aired, Sasson set things straight and calmed the situation: "It worked less well, but it doesn't mean anything."
The flames in the "MasterChef" kitchen are always high, but in the last episode that aired, they rose even higher. Two of the leading contestants on the show, Eliav Sasson and Jackie Azulay, were paired to cook together in a task that required cooperation under limited time and experimentation with unfamiliar ingredients from Ethiopian cuisine.
From the very first moment, when they had to decide what to cook, it seemed that the two cooks came from completely different schools of thought, a matter that led to disagreement and even a few barbs. At the end of an especially tense task, the two stood side by side — and in the end, it was Azulay who left the competition.
At the beginning of the task, Azulay and Sasson were reminiscing about shared memories from 13 years ago and showered each other with love:
"This is my brother, we have known each other for many years. When I finished "MasterChef" I was a star and Eliav approached me and said 'I want to make you a dress', it was the most fun in the world and it was an amazing dress."
But later, the displays of love were replaced by arguments. The dish that was Azulay's responsibility was a raviolo fricassee, and Eliav had reservations but offered his help. The contestant didn't really connect with the gesture:
"Believe me, I also know a thing or two."
Sassson explained and jabbed with humor:
"I never said I know more than you, I just said I'm here to help you. Inferiority complexes are something."
Even when it was Eliav's turn, it seemed there was a disagreement, when this time it was Jackie who didn't really connect with the way the sauce was being prepared. "It won't work like that, come on," she said after Eliav asked her to crush mango in a mortar and pestle, and insisted on doing it with an immersion blender. In the end, Jackie won, grinding with the blender.
Then the issue of the dish's spiciness arose, which also caused an exchange of words. Eliav insisted:
"I tell her what to do because it's my recipe, and she doesn't cooperate with me. Sister, the first dish is my responsibility, be attentive."
On the other hand, the contestant claimed:
"Even if he tells me exactly what to do, I must also bring in my own taste or palate. I won't do what he says like a robot."
After the show aired, Sasson addressed the events on his Instagram account:
"They throw us into a task, put a stopwatch and Ethiopian raw materials that we have never touched — that's already a recipe for conflict. It was challenging because on the internal level of the task it wasn't just about managing to cook together, it was a task of managing to maintain cooperation, to listen and advise each other, to agree to change while in motion, something that in day-to-day life is not easy for us as people. So it worked less well, but it doesn't mean anything."
