6 killed in strike in Gaza; IDF: Senior Hamas members who planned an attack were eliminated
Palestinian media reported that six people were killed and ten wounded in an IDF drone strike in the port area of Gaza City. The strike comes a day after Jared Kushner's visit to Israel, which dealt with the implementation of the Trump plan in the Strip.
Palestinian media reported that an IDF drone struck a cafe in the port area of Gaza City. Initially, one death and several injuries were reported, and later the Al-Shifa Hospital updated that six people were killed and ten others were wounded in the strike.
Subsequently, the IDF Spokesperson confirmed the strike. The full statement read:
"The IDF recently struck a number of commanders from the Hamas terrorist organization in the Shati area in the northern Gaza Strip. The terrorists planned to carry out terror plots against IDF forces operating in the Gaza Strip. The terrorists were struck from the air to remove the threat to the forces. IDF forces under the Southern Command are deployed in the area in accordance with the agreement and will continue to act to remove any immediate threat."
The strike occurred a day after Jared Kushner's visit to Israel, which dealt with the implementation of the Trump plan in the Gaza Strip. During the visit, Kushner met in Jerusalem with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Peace Council CEO Nickolay Mladenov. The parties discussed the practical plan for regulating control over the Gaza Strip and disarming Hamas.
The four-way meeting was held in an attempt to present an applicable plan for managing Gaza that would address Israel's security requirements. At the center of the discussion was the 15-point agreement, which the Prime Minister had previously rejected. Now, representatives of the Peace Council and the US administration are trying to formulate agreements on the stages of implementation on the ground.
The emerging plan proposes transferring civil authorities in the Strip to a technocratic council and preparing infrastructure for disarming Hamas. According to the plan, "pilot zones" free of Hamas will be established in the Rafah area and in the north of the Strip, similar to the model implemented in Lebanon. In these areas, temporary camps will be built for displaced residents, and education, health, and infrastructure services will be provided without the involvement of the terrorist organization.
