Marking 50 Years Since Operation Entebbe: Israel Postal Company Issues Commemorative Stamp
The Philatelic Service, in collaboration with the Intelligence Heritage and Commemoration Center, has launched a stamp dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the heroic operation in Uganda. The stamp features Sayeret Matkal soldiers returning from the rescue mission against the backdrop of Air Force planes and planning maps. The Israel Postal Company stated: "Proud to add this stamp to the mosaic of national memory."
Marking 50 years since the operation, the Philatelic Service of the Israel Postal Company, in collaboration with the Intelligence Heritage and Commemoration Center (IICC), has issued a special commemorative stamp to mark the jubilee of the heroic hostage rescue operation in Uganda.
The stamp, designed by Zvika Rotman, features an illustration of Sayeret Matkal soldiers returning from the rescue mission, with the Air Force planes that took part in the operation in the background. The stamp tab incorporates the maps used by the forces to plan the operation, set against the backdrop of Entebbe airport. The visual materials used as the basis for the design were sourced from the IDF and IICC archives.
The price of a single stamp is 18.50 shekels. In addition, philatelists and the general public can purchase a sheet of 15 stamps for 277.50 shekels, as well as a first-day cover offered at 19.50 shekels.
The Israel Postal Company stated this morning:
"The Philatelic Service of the Israel Postal Company is proud to add this stamp to the mosaic of the national memory of the State of Israel."
The stamp is being issued today (Tuesday) at an event marking 50 years since Operation 'Yonatan' at the Intelligence Heritage and Commemoration Center (IICC).
