3-4 kilograms less: The simple habit that accelerates weight loss
While many struggle with weight-loss medications, a new study reveals that there is a much easier method that can easily shed excess kilograms from the body. The mechanism is not a "fat-burning" magic, but a combination of caloric savings and a slight, temporary increase in energy expenditure.

The revolution of new weight-loss medications (such as the GLP-1 group) has fundamentally changed the treatment of obesity, but alongside the desired decrease in appetite and early satiety, a quiet "collateral damage" has appeared: our drinking habit. When you eat less and do not feel hungry, it is very easy to forget to reach for a glass of water.
However, proper hydration is not just a matter of regulating body temperature, waste removal, and digestive system function, but a critical component that determines the quality of the entire process and the general feeling of weight management.
Drinking water also has a more intriguing and direct role in the weight loss process. A scientific review in the journal Physiology & Behavior presented fascinating findings: a simple strategy of drinking about half a liter of water (about two glasses) about 30 minutes before meals led to an average weight loss of 4.3 kg among those who adhered to this before the three main meals, compared to only 0.8 kg in the group that did not.
The mechanism is not a "fat-burning" magic, but a combination of caloric savings from replacing sugary drinks, physical expansion of the stomach that activates fullness receptors in the brain, and a slight, temporary increase in metabolic energy expenditure.
For patients on weight-loss medications, maintaining fluids becomes a real medical necessity. A position paper by the "Atid" association (The Israeli Dietetic Association) clarifies that common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation require proactive and calculated fluid management.
The common recommendation is a daily consumption of 1.5 to 2 liters in small sips throughout the day (and up to 3 liters in cases of constipation). To deal with early satiety or nausea, it is recommended to separate drinking from meals by about 30 to 60 minutes, and not to wait for the feeling of thirst but to turn drinking into a proactive and monitored habit.
Alongside the importance of hydration for muscle function, it is important to be precise: water alone does not protect against the loss of lean body mass — a central challenge in weight loss that requires parallel adherence to protein and resistance training. To make drinking an easier and more enjoyable task, it is recommended to diversify with lemon slices, cucumber, mint, or fruit cubes, and to incorporate herbal infusions and green tea (hot or cold) without added sugar or sweeteners.
Beyond the variety in taste and increasing fluid intake, herbal infusions provide essential bioactive plant components and turn the glass forgotten on the table into a significant part of the treatment's success.
