113:4 in six matches: Bayern Munich's one-sided tradition continues

While most top European clubs test themselves against top-tier opponents, the German champion continues every summer to maintain one of the most unique traditions in world football, ending its training camp in Tegernsee with a match against the local club from the eighth division. This time, too, the difference in levels was clear, and Bayern cruised to a 15:0 victory, even though most of the players who played were from the youth team.
Why does this keep happening? For Rottach-Egern, it is a festive day. The amateur club, founded in 1946, gets to host one of the biggest teams in the world every year in front of thousands of spectators. The small club from the town of about 6,000 residents hosts an event that attracts spectators and provides rare exposure and significant financial income. From Bayern's perspective, this is a match intended primarily to give playing time to squad players, test youngsters, and thank the local community that hosts their training camp.
Even if 15:0 sounds unusual, it is far from being the most extreme result in the meetings between the teams. In 2023, Bayern defeated Rottach-Egern 27:0 – its biggest victory in a pre-season match; in 2019 it ended 23:0, in 2018 it was 20:2, in 2024 it was 14:1, and even in the first documented meeting between the two, in 2006, it won 14:1. Following today's victory, the cumulative balance in the documented meetings between the teams stands at 113 goals for Bayern against only four for Rottach-Egern – a figure that illustrates more than anything the difference in power, but also the unique tradition that has been formed between the two clubs.
