1,204 shekels on August 11: Who is eligible for the grant and how to receive it

Ahead of the upcoming school year, the National Insurance Institute (NII) is preparing to distribute a grant designed to assist many families. The grant will be paid during the month of August for children born between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2020. The benefit amount for the 2026/2027 school year stands at 1,204 shekels for each eligible child. In cases where a child falls outside the established age range but is entering first or twelfth grade, eligibility may still be granted upon submission of a school attendance certificate.

The primary group of eligible individuals includes single parents, as well as divorced, widowed, or unmarried individuals with school-age children. Additionally, eligibility is granted to families with four or more children who receive subsistence allowances, such as income support, alimony, general disability, or survivor benefits. The list of eligible individuals also includes women staying in shelters for victims of domestic violence, new immigrants, and those caring for orphaned children. The grant will be paid to the parent who currently receives the child allowance.

Most eligible individuals will receive the grant automatically into their bank accounts by August 11 and are not required to take any action. However, newly divorced individuals, parents living separately for over two years, and women whose husbands refuse to grant a divorce (agunot) must submit a proactive claim to receive the payment. Documents such as a request to split the child allowance file and a copy of a court ruling must be attached to the claim. Furthermore, parents who receive notification that they have been selected for a sample audit will be required to complete a brief declaration on the National Insurance Institute website.
