Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara approved a fuel excise tax reduction, lowering gasoline prices by 0.50 NIS per liter starting Sunday night after prices hit a record 8.27 NIS.

The legal advisor to the Ministry of Finance has appealed to the Attorney General's office to approve a reduction in the excise tax on gasoline until October 31, 2026, after fuel prices surged to a record 8.25 shekels. The request is submitted during an election period, in which the government acts as a transitional government obligated to exercise restraint in the exercise of its powers.

After gas prices in Israel soared to an all-time historical high, the Ministry of Finance is attempting to approve an emergency measure to lower gasoline costs, but the Budget Department and the Tax Authority are strongly opposing the move.
