The General Staff of the IDF, led by Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, held a memorial ceremony on Monday at the Zikim military base to mark the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre. The leadership gathered early in the morning to honor the soldiers and commanders who fell during the surprise attack.

The Battle at Zikim Base

During the visit, Home Front Command Chief of Staff Brig. Gen. Elad Edri presented the detailed battle narrative of Zikim, highlighting how the base successfully repelled the assault.

"We remember the commanders and soldiers who fought here with determination to defend the recruits under their command, the fierce battles in the communities and along the roads, and all those whose lives were cut short," stated Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.

An official investigation confirmed that the Zikim training base was not overrun, thanks to the fierce resistance of the command staff and Tavor Company fighters. Quick identification of the threat and swift tactical realignment prevented a larger disaster.

Casualties and Heroism

During the defense of Zikim, seven soldiers and commanders were killed, alongside one civilian and nine wounded soldiers. The forces successfully neutralized numerous attackers across five primary combat zones on the base perimeter and interior.
