The cost of living in Israel and final preparations for the new school year are driving retail chains to compete for the consumer's wallet. The Yohananof chain has stepped up its efforts with a special promotion, offering dozens of products from well-known brands at a 50% discount. However, the window of opportunity is closing, as the promotion is set to end in two days, on August 28, or while stocks last.

An analysis of the items on sale shows that the chain is focusing on basic consumer goods and products specifically suited for families with children. For example, Nestle breakfast cereal packs (Trix and Cini Minis) are priced at 9.90 NIS instead of 19.90, and Yotvata chocolate milk in a one-liter bottle is available for just 6.10 NIS. The frozen food section features 'Mama Of' schnitzel for 19.90 NIS and 'Maadanot' bourekas for 10.90 NIS. Pantry staples, such as Mutti tomato packs, are also being sold at half price.

This move is a direct continuation of the chain's strategy. As early as last June, Yohananof carried out a similar aggressive price cut on items including pastrami, cheeses, and coffee capsules. It appears the chain has identified a need for targeted, deep discounts to drive customer traffic. The test now is whether consumers will take advantage of the remaining 48 hours and whether competitors will launch a counter-reaction.
