wounded idf captain leaves military to rebuild family after gaza combat
Captain Dvir Megido survived a severe RPG attack in Khan Yunis with over 400 shrapnel wounds, later choosing to leave the IDF after two years of recovery to rebuild his family life.
Captain Dvir Megido was called up from his home at the start of the Simchat Torah attacks while his wife Adi stayed behind with a three-week-old baby.
During combat in Khan Yunis, an IDF force was hit by an RPG barrage. Three commanders fell, and Dvir suffered severe burns and over 400 shrapnel wounds on his left side. Despite a torn main artery, he managed to apply a tourniquet and stop the bleeding.
Shortly after arriving at Soroka Medical Center by helicopter, Dvir called his wife to reassure her. Just a month and a half later, while still recovering, he returned to the battlefield to support his troops.
After two grueling years, the couple decided to leave military service to focus on family rehabilitation, sharing a vital message: the home is the first circle of resilience.
