Cleaning the inside of a car windshield can be a particularly frustrating task. Often, we invest time and effort, certain that the window is completely clean, only to find dozens of streaks and smudges appearing the next morning when driving against the sun.

In the popular cleaning channel Clean That Up, cleaning expert Brandon shared a detailed guide presenting the most efficient and correct way to achieve a transparent, brilliant result without any streaks.

Preparing and Choosing the Right Cleaner

Before you start spraying, Brandon suggests placing a towel or an old beach towel along the dashboard of the car. The goal is to prevent cleaning fluid drips from wetting the interior or damaging the vehicle's coating.

According to Brandon, the choice of the cleaning agent depends on the level of dirt:

  • For light to moderate dirt: The golden recommendation is to use 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol. The alcohol breaks down dirt and grease extremely well and evaporates very quickly, preventing streaks and smudges.

  • Useful tip: A standard spray nozzle usually fits the thread of the alcohol bottle perfectly, so there is no need to transfer the liquid to another bottle.

The Magic Secret: The Two-Towel Method

The great secret to perfectly clean glass lies in using high-quality microfiber towels with a two-towel method.

  • First towel (Cleaning): Spray the alcohol (it is recommended to work in sections rather than spraying the entire windshield at once) and wipe with the first towel using vertical motions (up and down). The tiny microfiber fibers trap dirt and soot instead of smearing them across the glass.

  • Second towel (Polishing and Drying): Immediately after cleaning, go over the surface with a second microfiber towel—completely clean and dry—using the same motions. The role of the second towel is to absorb residual moisture and provide a final polish ensuring transparent glass.

Tips for a Perfect Windshield

  • Work only in the shade: Never clean the windshield under direct sunlight. The heat will cause cleaning products to dry instantly on the glass, leaving stains and streaks.

  • Directional tip for identifying smudges: Clean the inside of the windshield in vertical motions (up-down) and the outside in horizontal motions (side-to-side). If you notice a smudge while driving, you can immediately tell by its direction whether it is inside or outside the vehicle.
