WhatsApp Beta Introduces Message Scheduling Feature for Android Users
WhatsApp is rolling out a message scheduling feature for Android beta testers, allowing users to schedule texts, links, and media up to two weeks in advance with end-to-end encryption.
WhatsApp is finally introducing a message scheduling feature for Android beta testers, allowing users to schedule texts, links, photos, and videos for individual and group chats. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the feature was discovered in beta version 2.26.40.7 available on the Google Play Store.
How the Scheduling Works
Users can schedule messages ranging from 10 minutes to two weeks in advance. The messages will be sent automatically at the chosen time even if the device is offline or the application is closed, while maintaining end-to-end encryption. To schedule a text, users simply type the message and long-press the send button, where a bottom sheet will appear to select the date and time. For media, users select a photo or video from the gallery and long-press the send button, though currently only one media item can be scheduled per message.
Management and Group Chat Limitations
Scheduled messages appear in a dedicated section within the chat info screen, allowing users to manage or delete them before delivery without notifying the recipient. In group chats, a specific limitation applies: scheduled messages will only be delivered to members who were present in the group at the time the message was scheduled, excluding new participants who join later.
The feature is currently rolling out gradually to selected beta testers on Android, with an iOS release expected in the future following further testing and a formal announcement.
