The Ministry of Environmental Protection reported today that mosquitoes infected with the West Nile virus have been detected in northern Israel (Yokneam and the Megiddo Regional Council) and in the central region (Ramat HaSharon, Modiin-Maccabim-Reut, and Kochav Yair-Tzur Yigal).

Following the discovery, local authorities have been instructed to expand monitoring, prevention, and extermination activities. Simultaneously, the ministry emphasizes that the public must take immediate preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus.

Key preventive measures include draining standing water from containers, flower pots, and tires; using approved mosquito repellents; utilizing physical barriers such as window screens and light-colored clothing; and reporting public mosquito hazards to municipal call centers.

The risk period for infected mosquitoes lasts until the end of November. The ministry stresses that public vigilance and timely reporting are critical for focusing extermination efforts and protecting public health.
