San Antonio Spurs dropped to 0-2 at the start of the NBA season following a narrow 114-110 defeat against the Houston Rockets. The decisive moment came in the final seconds when Houston guard Amen Thompson delivered a stunning, game-winning block on Victor Wembanyama's close-range attempt to tie the game.

"I should have dunked it," Wembanyama candidly admitted after finishing the match with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Standing at 2.24 meters, the French star was denied at the rim by the 2.01-meter Thompson, whose extraordinary athleticism left players and coaches in disbelief. Dylan Harper contributed 20 points for San Antonio, calling the defensive play a one-in-a-million athletic feat.

Kevin Durant, playing for Houston, praised Thompson's rapid recovery and exceptional timing, while Fred VanVleet sealed the victory from the free-throw line in the dying seconds. Despite Wembanyama's stellar numbers, the Spurs struggled offensively throughout the game, mirroring their opening-night loss to Oklahoma City.

Analysts have pointed to early-season growing pains in San Antonio's backcourt rotation, featuring De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper. Head coach Ime Udoka explained that Houston's defensive strategy focused on clogging the paint and forcing the Spurs to shoot from the perimeter. While Wembanyama remains optimistic about the team's chemistry and future adjustments, the Spurs must quickly find offensive balance to match high expectations after reaching the Western Conference Finals last season.
