Video: Revenge arson attack follows family dispute in Ar'ara
Investigators from the Aroer police station reported on the arson of a vehicle in the town following a dispute between two families. The incident caused heavy damage to a Chevrolet parked in a private yard, with losses estimated at approximately 170,000 NIS. An indictment has been filed against the 30-year-old suspect.
An indictment was filed Monday at the District Court in Be'er Sheva against a 30-year-old resident of Ar'ara in the Negev.
The incident stems from a mass brawl that occurred about a month ago in Ar'ara, during which participants rammed vehicles and threw stones at security forces, leading police to open fire.
Following that event, investigators from the Aroer station received a report of a vehicle arson in the town linked to an ongoing dispute between two families. The fire caused severe damage to a Chevrolet parked in the yard of a home, with damages estimated at approximately 170,000 NIS.
Station investigators collected evidence at the scene and conducted operations to locate the suspect. The man was arrested, and his detention was extended multiple times throughout the investigation.
According to the investigation, the suspect arrived at the victim's home, rammed the gate with his vehicle until it collapsed, and entered the yard. He then rammed the complainant's wife's vehicle, smashed the windows with a hammer, returned shortly after, ignited a bag with a lighter, placed it on the driver's seat, and fled the scene on foot.
Meanwhile, police sources told Walla that data indicates a 50% decrease in arson incidents and a 23% decrease in shooting incidents compared to the same period last year.
Aroer station investigation officer, Major Hananel Shklar, stated:
"Aroer station investigators acted professionally and thoroughly to collect evidence and locate the suspect. This is a serious violent incident against the background of a dispute between families. Aroer station police officers will continue to act with all the means at our disposal to ensure the defendant is prosecuted to the full extent of the law."
