US Approves $2.1 Billion Sale of 500 Patriot Missiles to Ukraine
The US approved the $2.1 billion sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missiles to Ukraine, funded by allied contributions through the JUMPSTART program to bolster air defenses.

The US State Department announced on Friday that it has approved the sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 interceptor missiles to Ukraine in a deal valued at approximately $2.1 billion. According to reports, this marks one of the most significant defensive arms transfers to Kyiv since the start of the second term of the administration of Donald Trump.
Under the arrangement, Ukraine will fund the purchase through contributions from Canada, Germany, and Norway via the US JUMPSTART program, alongside national funds from an EU assistance loan. The program utilizes allied contributions to procure weaponry, services, and training for Ukraine to bolster its air defense against Russian strikes. Ukraine has repeatedly stressed the urgent need for advanced interceptors to counter escalating Russian ballistic missile attacks.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions following deadly strikes across Ukraine, including an attack on a crowded railway station in Dnipro that left at least 14 people dead. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier noted delays in receiving crucial shipments as Russia intensifies assaults on energy infrastructure. Prime contractor Lockheed Martin noted that the multi-billion dollar production scaling aims to triple output capacity by 2030, though standard delivery timelines for such major foreign military sales typically span years.
