Prof. Uriel Simon, a leading Israeli biblical scholar and professor emeritus at Bar-Ilan University, has passed away at the age of 97 in Jerusalem.
The academic world and biblical studies mourn the loss of Prof. Uriel Simon, one of Israel's leading biblical scholars, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 97. His funeral will take place on Wednesday at 5:00 PM at the Jerusalem Community funeral hall in Givat Shaul.
Born in Jerusalem, Simon dedicated decades of his life to biblical research, commentary, and preserving the heritage of the Bible. He began his academic journey at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he studied Bible, Jewish history, and general history, later completing his doctorate in biblical studies.
In the early 1960s, he joined the faculty of Bar-Ilan University, holding numerous key positions in the Bible Department, heading it, and serving as professor emeritus. Throughout his scientific career, he focused on medieval Jewish exegesis, emphasized the study of Abraham ibn Ezra, and extensively engaged with the Book of Psalms.
