Uri Geller reveals the meeting with the Lubavitcher Rebbe: "He was in shock"
The illusionist shared on Sharon Gal's podcast about the surprising meeting in Brooklyn where he bent a spoon for the Chabad Rebbe, displayed unique chutzpah, and received a souvenir that no other visitor had received from his hands.
The illusionist Uri Geller, who became famous for his telepathy stunts and spoon bending, was a guest on the podcast "In Sharon's Salon," hosted by journalist Sharon Gal. During the interview, Geller spoke about his one-time meeting with the Lubavitcher Rebbe in New York.
As is known, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson was the seventh and final Rebbe of the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement. The Rabbi established a network of emissaries and Chabad Houses in various places around the world and declared ten campaigns to encourage the observance of a number of commandments.
"I was quite well-known in New York, I lived in New York for many years. One day a religious man came to me and told me that the Lubavitcher Rebbe wants to meet me. We were alone in the room with him and he was in shock when I bent a spoon for him. I did telepathy with him, I told him: 'Go, go outside, draw something'," the illusionist shared.
When Uri Geller met the Lubavitcher Rebbe
Unlike other visitors who arrived at the Lubavitcher Rebbe's private room at the Chabad center in Brooklyn and received a single dollar bill, Uri Geller received special treatment from the Rebbe.
"I knew that the Rabbi distributes a dollar to people. I said to the Rabbi: 'I am a special person, I want a two-dollar bill'. He sent someone to the back, they brought me a two-dollar bill and I continued with my chutzpah. I asked the Rabbi: 'Sign it for me'. He took out a pen and signed it for me, handed me the pen and said: 'Take this too'. It is on display in my museum."
