A tent for settling clan disputes — and an arms cache: The state of crime in Arara
Dozens of suspects have been arrested in recent days, alongside a series of police raids in which significant quantities of weaponry were seized. During one of the operations, an arms cache was found inside a 'shig' — a tent for settling clan disputes. Despite the extensive activity, the struggle against the reality of crime in the Negev is far from over.
During a series of police raids by officers of the Southern District in the town of Arara in the Negev, a large quantity of weaponry was seized. In the overall total of operations in recent days, eight suspects were arrested, as learned on Monday. One of the weapons caches was found inside a 'shig' — a traditional Bedouin guest tent intended for settling disputes, mainly between clans.
As part of one of the raids, 4 'Glock' pistols, an M-16 rifle, magazines, and ammunition were seized, with two pistols found hidden inside the 'shig', and an additional pistol was located in a vehicle.
In another operational activity, detectives of the Southern District's Central Unit and officers of the Ayarot station operated at the home of a suspect, a resident of the Bedouin diaspora. An M-16 type rifle was located in the suspect's home. During another activity, officers of the Ayarot station in cooperation with fighters of the Sa'ar Brigade and the Southern Border Police conducted searches at a residential complex. During the search, a 'Glock' type pistol, a magazine, and ammunition were located and seized, and an additional suspect was arrested.
In the last month, many activities by the Israel Police have been reported as part of the fight against the crime occurring in the areas of the Bedouin diaspora. Just in the middle of the month, a series of proactive actions by the Israel Police were reported as part of Operation 'Iron Net', during which 36 suspects were arrested over one weekend.
