Soldier attacked on a bus in Haifa: 'He cursed me because of the uniform and started throwing stones'

A nightmare on the way to the base: a routine bus ride in Haifa turned, according to a conscript soldier, into a violent incident. A passenger insulted her because of her uniform and later threw stones at the bus, shattering the driver's windshield.

The incident occurred last Wednesday, around 12:50 PM, on Superbus line 55 near the Paz Bridge in Haifa. The soldier was on her way to the base and was sitting in the seat behind the driver. According to her, there were only a few passengers on the bus.

'He waited for me at the traffic light with stones. There was a guy on the bus playing music at a very high volume,' she recalls. 'Only when he got up to get off at the stop did I look in his direction. I didn't say anything to him. The moment we made eye contact, he started cursing at me.'

The attacked soldier recalls that the man shouted: 'Military b****, whore, and to hell with this country.'

'He stood very close to me and shouted,' she says. 'I was so stressed that I stopped looking at him out of fear.' When the bus stopped, the suspect kicked the doors with force, and after getting off, he began throwing stones.

'At the first stone, I called the police,' she says. 'When we reached the traffic light, he crossed the road to throw stones specifically at the side where I was sitting. I moved to the back of the bus. At the next traffic light, he was already waiting for us with stones.'

Several stones hit the bus, and one shattered the driver's windshield. The soldier claims the suspect fled the scene by boarding another bus. Part of the incident was captured by a dashcam of a car driving behind the bus and has been handed over to the police.

'He didn't shout at the driver, and he didn't bother the other passengers. Everything was directed at me. Only later did I understand that all his anger was because I was in uniform,' she says. 'My job is to protect the country, but at that moment I was most vulnerable.'

The soldier concluded with a hope for justice: 'He didn't just attack me; he endangered everyone on the bus.'

The Israel Police responded: 'Upon receiving the complaint, an investigation was opened. A suspect involved in the incident was arrested and questioned. We cannot provide further details regarding an ongoing investigation.'
