Widespread Power Outage Paralyzes Tel Aviv and Central Israel During Peak Heat
Thousands of residents in Tel Aviv, Jaffa, and Bat Yam were left without power during the hottest hours of the day. The Israel Electric Corporation is working to repair a substation malfunction and restore service.
At the peak of summer and during the hottest hours, many residents in the Tel Aviv, Jaffa, and Bat Yam area are reporting widespread power outages today (Wednesday). According to a notice sent to residents, this is a regional malfunction, with initial estimates suggesting power would not be restored until the afternoon.
Among the central areas affected are Bograshov, Shenkin, King George, Allenby, Kerem HaTeimanim, Florentin, and parts of Bat Yam. The outage, which occurred without warning in the middle of the workday, has severely impacted local businesses. Restaurants, cafes, butcher shops, and stores in the Carmel Market and Levinsky Market areas have been forced to halt operations, leading to potential losses of perishable goods and revenue.
In response to the incident, the Israel Electric Corporation stated:
"A malfunction at a substation led to a power outage in several areas in Tel Aviv."
They added that reinforced crews are on-site working to repair the damage and restore power as quickly as possible. Despite earlier reports suggesting a longer wait, the company stated that there is an "estimate of about an hour for a return to routine."
Although this is a significant malfunction, it follows a similar event just last week, when large parts of Israel experienced power outages that were resolved after a short period.
