Trump Ally Who Called Zelensky a 'Jewish Nazi' Reverses Course: 'I Was Bombarded with Russian Propaganda'
Far-right activist Laura Loomer, who previously justified the Russian invasion, visited Kyiv and interviewed President Volodymyr Zelensky. She admitted to being misled by Russian propaganda and expressed regret for her past rhetoric.
Far-right activist Laura Loomer, an American Jew close to President Donald Trump and a member of the MAGA movement, has in recent years sharply criticized American aid to Ukraine. She even went so far as to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a "self-hating Jewish Nazi" and called for a full Russian occupation of Ukraine. However, last week she arrived unexpectedly in Kyiv, visited a variety of sites, and held an extensive interview with Zelensky, explaining her turnaround by saying she had been "bombarded with Russian propaganda."
A Shift in Perspective
Loomer, known for promoting conspiracy theories, long echoed views prevalent among MAGA supporters who believed Washington should not assist Kyiv. Her visit could shift public opinion within the far-right Republican camp, especially as President Donald Trump himself appears to have recently adjusted his stance on Ukraine.
"I just experienced my first air strike in Ukraine," Loomer shared during her visit. "Sirens are wailing. It's a daily occurrence for every Ukrainian. I often said that it doesn't interest me—looking back, it wasn't nice of me to say that." For years, she had echoed Russian claims that Ukraine was a "country full of Nazi sympathizers" and accused Zelensky of "faking his Jewishness."
Meetings in Kyiv and Bucha
Dmytro Lytvyn, Zelensky's spokesperson, stated that no Ukrainian government institution organized the visit, adding that the President's office first learned of Loomer's presence through social media. Nevertheless, the office noted: "It is really important that Loomer is in Ukraine and sees things with her own eyes. It takes courage to come to Ukraine and not be deterred by Russian propaganda."
Beyond her meeting with Zelensky, Loomer visited the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, where she accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of hypocrisy: "I just don't think you're allowed to say you're defending Christianity if you're trying to attack Jesus with a drone." She also visited Bucha, labeling Russian actions as terrorism, and met with Ukraine's Chief Rabbi, Moshe Reuven Azman.
In the 45-minute interview, Loomer admitted to spreading lies about the war and praised Ukraine's drone tactics. Her admission marked a reversal for one of Trump's most loyal allies, who responded by sharing clips of the interview on his Truth Social platform.
