Car thief breaks through police checkpoint in Ariel: suspect arrested after shooting
During a police chase after a stolen vehicle driver in Ariel, the thief broke through a police checkpoint and attempted to run over a police officer. As he continued driving recklessly toward a Palestinian village, forces fired at the vehicle's tires and wounded the suspect, who was treated on the spot and evacuated.
Police officers from the Ariel station opened fire today, Thursday, at the driver of a stolen vehicle who broke through a police checkpoint in the city. According to the police statement, the driver breached the checkpoint in an attempt to escape, while also trying to run over a police officer.
After breaking through the checkpoint, the driver continued his escape, driving recklessly toward the Palestinian village of Salfit. Police pursued the vehicle and fired at its tires. The suspect was hit by the gunfire, received medical treatment on the spot, and was evacuated from the scene.
Yesterday, the Northern District Attorney's Office filed a severe indictment at the Nazareth District Court against three members of a hit squad, which the prosecution claims is affiliated with a criminal organization in the north. They are charged with involvement in the double murder of contractor Marwan Abu Shahin (52) from Buq'ata and Saada Saada (56) from Hurfeish, which occurred last June in the northern Golan Heights.
The defendants are Ayman Ibrahim (43) from Sajur, Said Madah (28) from Samia, and Ronen Araida (19) from Kiryat Shmona. An additional indictment was filed against Araida for attempted murder in Yarka. The charges follow a complex and covert investigation conducted by the Central Unit of the Northern District police.
The double murder took place on June 19, around 12:00 PM. Police received a report of shooting at close range at a vehicle in Buq'ata. Abu Shahin, who investigators believe was the target of the liquidation, and Saada, who happened to be at the scene, were both pronounced dead at the location.
