Suspect arrested with M16 rifle after high-speed chase on northern highway
A 29-year-old resident of Rahat was arrested following a police pursuit on Highway 77. The suspect attempted to flee, rammed a patrol car, and discarded a bag containing weapons before officers neutralized his vehicle by firing at the tires.

An unusual incident occurred on the roads of the north as Northern District police officers arrested a 29-year-old resident of Rahat on Monday. The arrest followed a pursuit during which the suspect attempted to evade police and rammed a patrol car.
The incident began during a proactive police operation on Highway 77, near the Beit Rimon interchange. When officers signaled the driver to stop for inspection, the suspect ignored the order, accelerated, and attempted to flee the scene.
During the pursuit, which lasted several kilometers, officers performed precise fire at the vehicle's tires to neutralize it. The suspect continued his reckless driving and struck a police car before being brought to a complete stop.
Throughout the chase, officers observed the suspect throwing a bag from his vehicle. Subsequent searches in the area led to the discovery of various weapons inside the bag, including an M16 rifle disassembled into parts, alongside other items found within the car.
The suspect was transferred for questioning. This morning, police will request an extension of his detention at the Magistrate's Court in Nof HaGalil. Authorities noted that since the beginning of the year, Northern District police and Border Police fighters have seized over 570 weapons in the sector.
