A 34-year-old resident of Bat Yam has been arrested on suspicion of setting fire to a storage room in a residential building on Herzl Street. Authorities believe the act was committed out of anger following the theft of the suspect's bicycle. Police announced that upon completion of the investigation, a prosecutor's statement was filed, and a formal indictment is expected in the coming days.

The incident occurred on July 21, 2026, at approximately 00:04, when the 100 emergency center received a report of arson. Officers from the Bat Yam station arrived at the scene to collect evidence and initiate a search for the suspects. The investigation revealed that two individuals approached the storage room and attempted to force the door open. After failing to gain entry, one of the suspects allegedly poured a flammable substance on the door and ignited it.

The suspect was taken to the Bat Yam station for questioning and subsequently detained. His remand was extended multiple times by the court as investigators gathered evidence linking him to charges of arson, attempted burglary, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
