Ashkelon Resident Arrested on Suspicion of Cyberattacks on Dozens of Companies
An Ashkelon resident has been arrested on suspicion of deploying malware across dozens of Israeli companies to steal sensitive data. His detention has been extended until August 23, and the court has issued a gag order on his identity.
An Ashkelon resident has been arrested on suspicion of infiltrating dozens of companies within the Israeli economy with malicious software to collect computer data and sensitive information. The suspect was apprehended following a covert investigation by the Lahav 433 cyber unit, and his detention has been extended until August 23. The court has prohibited the publication of his name at the request of his defense attorney.
In an official statement, the police spokesperson noted:
"The cyber unit is conducting an investigation into allegations that the suspect, a resident of Ashkelon, deployed malware to harvest computer materials and sensitive information from dozens of companies across the Israeli economy."
During the covert phase of the investigation, unit detectives worked to trace the suspect, eventually identifying him through complex analytical procedures.
Earlier today, the unit moved to the overt phase of the investigation, arresting the suspect and conducting searches at his residence and several corporate locations.
The suspect was interrogated under caution for offenses related to the Computer Law, wiretapping, invasion of privacy, and other criminal acts. Following the interrogation, he was brought before the Magistrate's Court in Rishon LeZion, where his detention was extended until August 23, 2026. The case is being overseen by the Cyber Department of the State Attorney's Office.
