A sex-addict president and a fascist America: the new novel by Jeff Bezos' ex-wife
MacKenzie Scott returns to literature after 13 years with a dystopian novel about a divided America, a fascist takeover, and two presidents with wild and bizarre sex lives. This time, she is skipping Amazon and publishing the book for free on Substack.
MacKenzie Scott, the billionaire ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has released her first novel since their high-profile divorce — and it is far from conventional. According to a report in the New York Post, 56-year-old Scott is currently publishing her new book in daily installments, presenting a dystopian vision, left-wing social criticism, and a great deal of presidential lewdness.
The book, titled "Last Days in Two Nations (A History in 18 Minds)," describes a nightmare scenario of a partial fascist takeover of the United States. The plot takes place partly in a disputed territory amidst a clash between "the countries that are still united" and a western stronghold in the Dakota states. The divided nation is ruled by two rival leaders. One is a nameless dreamer known as "the virtuous president," who fantasizes about "services" she receives in the White House. The second is Damian Paxton, a surgeon who grew up in South Africa and became a sex-addict president. Paxton, who rules from the city of Rapid City, boasts that he brings three different women into his bed every night. At the same time, he is an obsessive collector of fish who is on constant alert for the koi herpes virus.
Other strange plot lines include a character named Jonah, who crosses minefields with a rat in a biodegradable carrier and compares his prying sister to the East German secret police, the Stasi, while watching a group of sisters dancing in sexy Santa Claus dresses on television.
Scott, who studied writing at Princeton University under the acclaimed author Toni Morrison, is publishing the 320-page book on the Substack platform for free. Her vast fortune, which stood at $38 billion in Amazon stock at the time of the 2019 divorce, allows her complete creative freedom without commercial worries. Since the divorce, Scott has sold 75% of her shares, donated about $26 billion, and become one of the largest donors to far-left organizations.
Although her previous books were sold on Amazon, the current work, which has already garnered about 6,000 subscribers, is drawing criticism. Author and lawyer Thomas Knyff offered a stinging critique to the newspaper:
"While I am not eager to criticize any writer's journey, after reviewing Ms. Scott's rather colorful prose, I wonder if it would not have been better for her to dedicate her time and considerable resources to something more purposeful."
