One dead and 14 injured in a ramming incident at the Pride parade in Berlin
Hundreds of thousands were celebrating in the German capital when a vehicle sped toward the crowds. The parade was cancelled, and police arrested the driver.
A tragic incident occurred in Berlin during the Pride parade, where a vehicle rammed into pedestrians, leaving one person dead and 14 others injured, many in serious condition.
The incident took place late Saturday night in the city center. According to the newspaper Bild, at approximately 22:00, a white commercial vehicle drove at high speed toward people gathered near Lenné Street, close to Tiergarten park.
Emergency services declared a mass-casualty incident. A spokesperson for the local fire department confirmed that 44 personnel are operating at the scene, which has been cordoned off by police. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver exited the vehicle after the impact and attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended by police minutes later.
Following the incident, organizers of the parade, which had drawn hundreds of thousands of participants, announced the immediate termination of the event. Evacuation instructions were displayed on the main screen at the Brandenburg Gate. Organizers also issued a statement on Instagram urging participants to leave the area in an orderly fashion, avoid the Victory Column and Tiergarten park, and head toward the central train station.
