A mysterious and powerful AI model has suddenly appeared online, distributing 100 trillion tokens per day to users for free. This model, which arrived without any prior announcement and without any company taking credit for it, displays performance that impresses even industry leaders.
100 trillion tokens per day for free
The mysterious model, named Ox Alpha, was released to the general public in Stealth mode through popular services like OpenRouter and OpenCode. Unusually, this is not just another small, experimental model, but a full-fledged Frontier model with impressive capabilities in code writing, agent execution, and direct integration into production environments. Ox Alpha comes with a context window of one million tokens, offers multimodal capabilities for working with text, video, and images, and its output capacity is limited to 131,000 tokens.
But what really caught the community's attention is the price, or rather the lack thereof. OpenCode notes that the company allows free use of the model for a week, with a daily limit of 100 trillion tokens—about ten times what the most "wasteful" OpenAI developer spends, if we rely on Sam Altman's words.
On social media, this model is already flying. Even Patrick Collison, CEO and co-founder of fintech giant Stripe—which recently announced the acquisition of OpenRouter for $7 billion—was not indifferent and tweeted that the model is "very impressive," without elaborating further.
Who is behind it?
The question of who is responsible for this new model has divided speculation into two groups. The first group claims that Google decided to return to the headlines with a mysterious launch of a new model, just before the official reveal of the next generation of Gemini. This comes after it missed its targets for launching a Pro model that was supposed to challenge players like Claude Fable 5 or GPT-5.6 Sol.
On the other hand, the consensus among "model detectives" on X leans towards the Chinese Z.ai, developer of GLM models. This theory has quite a few reinforcements: in the past, Z.ai released the GLM-5 model before the official launch under the code name Pony Alpha. Additionally, users report a similarity in the style of responses between GLM models and Ox Alpha, including grammatical errors that are less characteristic of models from American giants.
