Doctor from Rahat arrested after chase and attempt to hide weapons

The Northern District Attorney's Office has filed an indictment against Sami ben Khalil Talka, a 29-year-old doctor from Rahat. He is charged with illegal transport of weapons, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, and interfering with a police officer. His trial will take place at the Nazareth District Court.

Staff Sergeant Muhsan Dagash, head of the investigation team at the Kafr Kanna police station, explained that the incident began during a routine vehicle check near the HaMovil junction. Officers noticed a vehicle driving on the shoulder to bypass traffic. When signaled to stop, the driver accelerated and attempted to evade the checkpoint.

«The officers reported to a patrol car to block the fleeing vehicle, but he collided with the patrol car before being stopped. Afterward, he threw a bag from the vehicle and the officers jumped toward the bag, while another officer lunged toward the vehicle and caught the suspect», — said Dagash.

A search of the bag revealed a double magazine full of M-16 ammunition, while a search of the vehicle uncovered another magazine, a bolt carrier, and a charging handle. Simultaneously, a local resident reported finding a bag on the road containing an M-16 rifle, stating she had accidentally run over it and dragged it for several kilometers.

Forensic analysis at the National Headquarters laboratories in Jerusalem confirmed a complete match between the weapon parts found by the citizen and those discovered in the suspect's possession. The defendant denies all charges, claiming to be a law-abiding citizen who recently completed his medical studies.

Defense attorney Adel Bouirat stated: «My client denies all counts of the indictment. This is a completely normative citizen».
