Jew attacked by a mob in Barcelona: "They shouted that Jews are not welcome here"
Seven French Jews were surrounded by a mob at the Barcelona port, facing 40 minutes of antisemitic slurs, spitting, and humiliation. One of the victims, Jimmy Zagron, recounted the terrifying ordeal in an interview with French television.
A Jewish man who was attacked along with six of his friends in Barcelona several weeks ago recounted the moments of terror for the first time in an interview with a French television network.
"For 40 minutes, hundreds of people insulted us and spat on us," he described.
Jimmy Zagron, one of the victims, stated that the group was deeply frightened by the mob that gathered around them. At one point, they feared for their safety, eventually managing to flee back to their hotel.
According to Zagron, the incident began in the port area of Barcelona when a woman carrying pro-Palestinian symbols started shouting at them, and others quickly joined in. While the initial chants were "Free Palestine," the rhetoric soon turned antisemitic, including slurs such as "baby killers," "Jews are not welcome here," and "Zionists are not welcome here," alongside calls for "death to Israel" and slogans against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"When she shouted 'Free Palestine,' she clapped her hands, raised her arms like a fan in the stands—and the people answered her," Zagron described.
Realizing they were in danger, the group members split up in an attempt to prevent being surrounded. Zagron, who was wearing a kippah, attempted to explain to the attackers that he was French, not Israeli, in an effort to de-escalate the situation, but the harassment continued. Among the group was also a Chabad Hasid wearing traditional Jewish clothing, including a long coat and a black kippah.
