22-year-old arrested in the heart of Bat Yam with a stun grenade in hand — moments before a criminal incident
A 22-year-old man was arrested this evening on Balfour Street in Bat Yam, after a report was received by the police about a person seen holding a grenade and suspected of intending to throw it. Police officers who arrived at the scene located him in possession of a stun grenade and arrested him. Police sappers were summoned to the scene to examine the grenade and neutralize it.
A 22-year-old man, a resident of the central region, was arrested this evening (Tuesday) on Balfour Street in Bat Yam, suspected of walking around with a stun grenade in his possession and intending to throw it.
The incident began with a report received at the police 100 emergency center about a suspicious person seen on the street holding a grenade. According to the report, there was a suspicion that he intended to throw it.
Bat Yam station police officers who arrived at the scene located the young man and arrested him. A search of his person revealed a stun grenade. At this stage, it has not been disclosed what the potential target was or what was behind the incident.
The suspect was transferred for questioning at the Bat Yam station, and depending on the development of the investigation, the police are expected to ask the court to extend his detention.
