Bedouin youth without a license hit children on a playground with a scooter and fled

An 18-year-old Bedouin, a resident of Bir al-Maksur, was arrested on suspicion of driving a scooter without a license, entering a playground near Shfaram, and hitting two 8-year-old children. According to the police, the children were moderately injured and taken to the hospital, while the suspect fled the scene.

The accident occurred on the evening of June 30. The investigation unit of the Galilee district opened an inquiry, during which it emerged that the suspect, who had never obtained a driver's license, drove inside the park in a manner that endangered its users. After the accident, he allegedly hid the scooter in a structure belonging to a relative, far from his home.

Two days ago, police officers raided the suspect's home and arrested him. During the search, ammunition and substances suspected to be drugs were seized. At the same time, his 22-year-old relative was arrested on suspicion of helping to hide the scooter. At the time of the arrest, parts of a scooter were found, which are suspected to have been involved in the accident and subsequently dismantled.

The two were interrogated at the investigation unit of the Galilee district. The Magistrate's Court in Haifa extended their detention for the second time until August 16. Major Roni Hinawi, an officer of the Traffic Division of the Galilee district, stated: "Israel Police officers will continue to act decisively against criminal drivers and road bullying offenses with the aim of bringing lawbreakers to justice."
