8 Billion Shekel Investment: New Train Station Approved in Israel
The National Infrastructure Committee has approved plans for the "Dayan" station in Haifa, part of the "Nofit" light rail project. The line is designed to serve approximately 100,000 passengers daily with high-speed intercity connections.
Israel's transportation system continues to undergo modernization to provide efficient, high-quality service to its citizens. The National Infrastructure Committee has approved the Ministry of Transport's plans for the construction of the "Dayan" station on the Yadin-Volkan section of the "Nofit" light rail, located near the Merkazit HaMifratz central transport hub in Haifa.
This approval facilitates the execution of the station and advances the project, which is being managed by the "Hozey Israel" company. The Dayan station is designed as a three-story elevated facility. The approved plan encompasses the station building, access roads, landscape development, and integration into the light rail route and the surrounding bridge and infrastructure network.
The "Nofit" light rail is Israel's first regional light rail system, combining urban and intercity travel to allow for continuous journeys between localities without the need to change transport modes.
The line spans approximately 41 kilometers and includes 20 stations, connecting Haifa, the Krayot, Shfaram, Nof HaGalil, and Nazareth. The program features over 30 trains reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h on intercity sections, with a frequency of up to one train every 4 minutes. The line is expected to serve approximately 100,000 passengers per day.
The line's starting point is the integrated Merkazit HaMifratz transport center in Haifa, continuing to the Dayan station and Kiryat Ata. The route is set to pass along the new Highway 781 and Highway 79, near Shfaram, Bir al-Maksur, Reineh, and Mashhad, before crossing Nof HaGalil to reach its final destination in Nazareth.
The project includes the construction of tracks, 20 stations, approximately 30 bridges and crossings, tunnels, a central operation and maintenance complex in Kiryat Ata, a control center, "Park and Ride" facilities, and bus terminals. The project's scope is estimated at approximately 8 billion shekels. Construction is currently underway, and the financial closing was recently finalized ahead of the franchisee's entry for system implementation and operation.
Minister of Transport Miri Regev stated:
"The approval of the planning is another step in the progress of the project, which will connect Haifa, the Krayot, Shfaram, Nof HaGalil, and Nazareth."
