Man under supervision cut off his electronic tag and tried to reach the protected person
A man classified as high-risk violated the restrictions imposed on him within days and notified a woman of his intention to reach Jerusalem. Following concerns for her safety, he was located and arrested, and an indictment was filed against him.
A man under supervision classified as high-risk cut off the electronic tag installed on him, attempted to approach the woman whom the order was intended to protect, and discarded the monitoring device. Following a joint operation by the Israel Prison Service's "Misgav" unit and the Israel Police, he was located and arrested, and the day before yesterday, an indictment and a request for detention until the end of proceedings were filed against him.
The incident began on August 18, when an electronic tag was installed on the supervisee at the Lev HaBira police station in Jerusalem to ensure he kept his distance from the protected person. However, within a few hours, an alert was received regarding a violation of the supervision, after he allegedly cut the tag using a knife.
Two days later, electronic supervision was renewed in accordance with a court decision. Subsequently, the supervisee called the protected person and announced his intention to reach Jerusalem. That same evening, he arrived in the Derech Namir area in Tel Aviv and discarded a bag containing the monitoring device that had been given to him.
Following the series of violations and concerns for the woman's safety, detectives from the "Misgav" unit, which is responsible for supervising and enforcing protection orders to prevent domestic violence, worked in cooperation with the police to locate and arrest him. At the same time, unit personnel maintained constant contact with the protected person as part of the protection envelope provided to her.
Commander of the "Misgav" unit, Lieutenant Colonel Lilach Atiya, stated:
"Behind every protection order stands a woman or a family who need to know that there is someone monitoring the risk and acting when a response is required. In this case, we identified a series of violations that raised the level of concern and required quick and determined action. The 'Misgav' unit combines technological supervision, operational activity, and constant contact with protected persons, with the goal of identifying the risk in time and acting before it turns into harm."
