An unusual incident occurred this evening (Thursday) on Highway 651 near the Yam Junction: a bus driver, aged about 50, collapsed and lost consciousness while driving, apparently due to a medical issue. Following the collapse, the bus collided with a private vehicle.
The report was received at the MADA 101 emergency center at 20:42. Paramedics and EMTs who arrived at the scene found the driver unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing; they extracted him from the driver's cabin and began performing advanced resuscitation efforts.
MADA EMTs Yonatan Yankelevich, Yosef Friedman, and Elimelech Michalovich said:
"We began advanced resuscitation efforts that included chest compressions, artificial respiration, and the administration of eight electric shocks from a defibrillator, and we evacuated him to the hospital in critical condition while fighting for his life."
The bus driver was evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Hospital while resuscitation efforts continued. The driver of the private vehicle involved in the accident was evacuated in light condition. MADA teams scanned the bus passengers, but no physical injuries were found among them, and there was no need for further evacuation to the hospital.
