Bus driver collapsed while driving, hit a car - and was evacuated in critical condition
The man, about 50 years old, apparently suffered a medical event on Highway 651 near the Yam Junction. Rescue teams extracted him from the driver's cabin without a pulse or breathing and performed advanced resuscitation procedures that included eight electric shocks. The driver of the private car was lightly injured and the bus passengers were not harmed.
A bus driver about 50 years old collapsed today (Thursday), apparently due to a medical event, while driving on Highway 651 in the area of the Yam Junction, and collided with a private car. The driver was evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera while undergoing resuscitation efforts, with his condition defined as critical.
The incident occurred around 20:40. Medical teams summoned to the scene boarded the bus and found the driver unconscious inside the driver's cabin, in front of the passengers. After extracting him from the cabin, it became clear that he had no pulse or breathing, and the teams immediately began medical treatment on the spot.
MDA paramedics Yonatan Yankelevich, Yosef Friedman, and Elimelech Michalovich, who treated the driver, described the actions at the scene:
"We began advanced resuscitation procedures that included compressions, ventilations, and the administration of eight electric shocks from a defibrillator device. We evacuated him to the hospital in critical condition while we fight for his life."
In parallel to the complex treatment of the bus driver, the teams conducted a scan of the other people involved in the accident. The driver of the private car that was hit was treated and evacuated to the hospital in light condition. The rest of the bus passengers were also checked on the spot, but it turned out that they were not physically injured and did not require further treatment or medical evacuation.
